How Massage with Charese Peterson Can Help Relieve Head Pain: Natural Relief for Migraines and TMJ

If you’ve ever experienced migraines or TMJ (temporomandibular joint) dysfunction, you know how disruptive head pain can be. While medical treatments and medications play an important role, many people are turning to holistic approaches like massage therapy to complement their care.

At Omni salon + wellness, we’re proud to offer therapeutic massage with Charese Peterson, a skilled massage therapist who specializes in helping clients find relief from head, neck, and jaw pain. Whether you’re living with chronic migraines or struggling with TMJ discomfort, Charese’s thoughtful, tailored approach can make a meaningful difference.
Let’s explore how massage with Charese can support your well-being and help ease migraine and TMJ symptoms.

Massage for Migraines: Relaxing Tension and Easing Pain

Migraines are more than “just headaches”—they’re often accompanied by throbbing pain, nausea, light sensitivity, and more. For many people, migraines are triggered or worsened by muscle tension, stress, or poor posture, especially around the neck and shoulders.
Charese uses a combination of techniques designed to:
✅ Reduce muscle tension – By targeting tight muscles in the neck, shoulders, and scalp, Charese helps release built-up tension that can contribute to migraine pain.
✅ Promote relaxation – Massage with Charese encourages the body to shift out of “fight or flight” mode, reducing stress hormones and increasing feel-good endorphins.
✅ Improve circulation – Enhanced blood flow to the head and neck can help decrease inflammation and support healing.
✅ Release trigger points – Charese is trained in identifying and addressing trigger points—tight spots in the muscles that refer pain to the head and temples.
Many clients report fewer headaches and a greater sense of calm after receiving regular massages from Charese. It’s a natural, non-invasive way to care for your nervous system and reduce stress, two major factors in migraine management.

Massage for TMJ: Releasing Jaw Tension and Supporting Recovery
TMJ dysfunction affects the joint that connects your jaw to your skull. It can cause jaw pain, headaches, earaches, clicking or popping in the jaw, and difficulty chewing. Stress, teeth grinding, and muscle tension often contribute to these symptoms.
Charese offers specialized techniques to help ease TMJ discomfort, including:
✅ Releasing tight jaw muscles – Through targeted massage of the jaw, neck, and surrounding muscles, Charese helps reduce tension in the areas most affected by TMJ.
✅ Reducing pain and inflammation – Massage increases blood flow to the jaw, promoting healing and helping to flush out built-up toxins.
✅ Easing related headaches and neck pain – Charese takes a holistic approach, addressing connected areas like the neck and shoulders for comprehensive relief.
✅ Improving jaw mobility – By softening tight muscles, massage can make it easier and less painful to open and close the mouth.

Is Massage with Charese Right for You?
Massage is a powerful complement to medical care, though it’s not a replacement for medical treatment. If you experience sudden, severe headaches or neurological symptoms, seek immediate medical attention. If your migraines or TMJ discomfort are related to muscle tension, stress, or postural issues, massage therapy with Charese may help reduce the frequency and intensity of your pain. Regular sessions can also provide an opportunity to rest, reset, and reconnect with your body.

✨ Ready to experience the benefits of massage with Charese Peterson? Contact Charese directly at 801.668.3317 to schedule an appointment or learn more about our therapeutic massage services.

Your head—and jaw—will thank you.

Blossoms, Beauty, and Bold Hair: Inspiration from My Trip to Japan

There’s something magical about Japan in the springtime. This year, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka just as the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The delicate pinks, soft whites, and bursts of blush in the trees were breathtaking—but what truly left a lasting impression on me, as a hairstylist, was how these blossoms seemed to inspire the people’s hair.

In Japan, I saw boldness in the streets that felt fresh, playful, and inspiring. In Osaka, I noticed young people with pink and red hair, shades that beautifully mirrored the cherry blossoms themselves. It felt like a celebration of spring, youth, and creativity. From subtle pastel washes to vivid magenta hues, their hair seemed to echo the fleeting beauty of the season.
What really struck me, though, was seeing older women with vibrant, fun colors like deep purple, icy lavender, and even bright blue. In Western culture, colorful hair is sometimes seen as something for the young, but in Japan, these older women wore their bright hues with confidence and elegance. It made me think about how hair color can be an expression of joy and individuality at any age.

Current Hair Trends in Japan
During my trip, I noticed some hair trends that stood out:
  1. Subtle Two-Tone Colors – I saw a lot of people with “peek-a-boo” hair colors. Imagine a natural black or dark brown with flashes of vivid pink, teal, or purple underneath, creating a striking contrast when the hair moves.
  2. Soft, Blunt Bobs – Especially in Kyoto, sleek, blunt bobs with minimal layering were everywhere. Paired with a glossy finish, this look felt modern and effortlessly chic.
  3. Messy, Tousled Waves – While Tokyo is known for its sleek, polished looks, I saw plenty of soft, tousled waves that gave off an undone, carefree vibe.
  4. Bright Accessories – Hairpins, barrettes, and scrunchies in playful patterns were a huge hit, adding a pop of color and personality.
  5. Gray Hair, Done Boldly – Whether naturally gray or dyed silver, I saw women embracing their grays with bold, edgy cuts and vibrant streaks of color.
  6. Textured Men’s Styles – Men’s hair in Japan often features texture and volume created by perming the hair. This subtle wave adds dimension and movement, giving a modern, stylish look that’s both polished and edgy. This look is achieved by perming the hair in unique patterns.

Fashion on the Streets
It wasn’t just the hair that inspired me—the fashion in Japan was equally striking. Japanese street style is known for blending traditional elements with modern trends, and I saw this everywhere I went. In Shibuya, people mixed bold patterns, oversized silhouettes, and quirky accessories. In Kyoto and Tokyo, the look was a bit more refined, with people wearing sleek, minimalist outfits in neutral tones. Meanwhile, Osaka’s street style had an edgy vibe, with lots of leather jackets, combat boots, and statement pieces.
One thing that really stood out was how people expressed their personalities through layering (which I did myself after seeing the trend). Whether it was a kimono-inspired jacket worn over a graphic tee or a flowy dress paired with chunky sneakers, every outfit told a story. Accessories were key—from colorful handbags to avant-garde glasses, there was always something unexpected that completed the look.

Inspired to Bring Japanese Influence to My Salon
Coming back from Japan, I feel more inspired than ever to bring a bit of this boldness to my salon. Whether it’s incorporating cherry-blossom pinks and reds for spring, encouraging clients to experiment with vibrant hues at any age, or recreating some of the sleek styles I saw on the streets of Kyoto and Tokyo, I’m excited to share this inspiration with my clients.
Japan reminded me that hair isn’t just about looking good—it’s about expressing who you are and finding joy in the colors and styles that speak to you. I hope this inspires you to think outside the box and maybe try something new with your own look.

If you’ve ever wanted to add a pop of color, try a sleek new cut, embrace a textured men’s style, or layer your look with playful accessories, let’s make it happen! After all, life is too short for boring hair—or boring fashion.

Introducing Atrevida: Unlock Radiant Hair and Glowing Skin with the Right Supplements

As a hairstylist for sixteen years, I’ve spent years helping my clients achieve their healthiest, most beautiful hair. While high-quality hair products and professional treatments are essential, true hair health starts from within. The same goes for your skin! If you want to grow strong, luscious locks and maintain a radiant, youthful glow, vitamins and supplements play a key role.

Why Supplements Matter for Hair and Skin Health
Our hair and skin are direct reflections of our overall health. What you put into your body will show within your hair, skin, and nails. Nutrient deficiencies can lead to hair thinning, breakage, slow growth, and dull, tired-looking skin. While a well-balanced diet is the foundation of good health, sometimes we need an extra boost to meet our body’s needs, especially if you hold a vegan/vegetarian diet like myself.. That’s where high-quality supplements come in.

The Essential Nutrients for Hair and Skin
Here are some key vitamins and minerals that support hair growth and skin vitality:
  • Biotin (Vitamin B7): Known as the “hair growth vitamin,” biotin strengthens the hair shaft, reduces breakage, and promotes healthy growth. It also supports skin health by improving hydration and elasticity.
  • Collagen: This protein is essential for skin elasticity and hydration. It also strengthens hair follicles, reducing shedding and promoting thicker, healthier hair.
  • Vitamin A: Helps skin produce natural oils to keep your scalp and complexion hydrated and youthful.
  • Vitamin C: A powerful antioxidant that supports collagen production, keeping skin firm and resilient while promoting healthy hair growth.
  • Vitamin D: Helps stimulate hair follicles and prevents excessive shedding.
  • Zinc: Essential for tissue repair and hair follicle health. It also plays a crucial role in reducing scalp irritation and acne flare-ups.
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Found in fish oil and flaxseed, these healthy fats nourish the scalp, add shine to hair, and reduce inflammation that can contribute to skin conditions like eczema.

Why I Recommend Atrevida Supplements
I’m excited to introduce my clients to Atrevida, a locally owned supplement company dedicated to high-quality, science-backed formulations for optimal hair and skin health. Their products are made with premium ingredients, free from unnecessary fillers, and designed to deliver real results. Whether you’re struggling with hair thinning, dull skin, or simply want to maintain your natural beauty, Atrevida has supplements to support your goals. Investing in your internal health will reflect in your outward beauty, and I’ve personally seen the difference in my own hair and skin since incorporating these supplements into my routine. Atrevida's Glow is the best supplement for hair, skin, and nail health, however they offer supplements for all your needs, whether its acne control, sleep aids, or  hormone assistance, Atrevida has you covered.

The Importance of Having a Morning Routine

In a world that constantly demands our attention, having a structured and intentional morning routine can be transformative. A morning routine sets the tone for the rest of your day, helping you feel grounded, energized, and prepared to tackle whatever comes your way. As a hairstylist I encourage clients to create a hair care routine to assist in the health of their hair. Let’s explore why a daily morning routine is important and how incorporating a few simple practices can make a significant difference in your life.

1. Wake Up at the Same Time Every Day

Consistency is key when it comes to building habits, and waking up at the same time each day is no exception. By maintaining a regular wake-up time, you regulate your body’s internal clock, improve sleep quality, and reduce feelings of grogginess. This consistency helps you start each day with a sense of stability and control, setting a positive foundation for the hours ahead.
Pro Tip: Choose a wake-up time that aligns with your natural sleep cycle and allows you enough rest to feel refreshed.

2. Embrace Mindfulness Practices

Starting your day with mindfulness can help you cultivate a sense of calm and clarity. Practices like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises allow you to connect with yourself before diving into the demands of the day. You don't need to dedicate a lot of time for this practice, starting with five minutes a day is a great starting point, as you maintain your routine you can slowly add more time every week. Meditation can reduce stress, improve focus, and boost emotional well-being, while yoga combines physical movement with mindfulness, helping you feel grounded and energized. Even five to ten minutes of mindful breathing can make a big difference in your mental state.
Pro Tip: Create a dedicated space for your mindfulness practice, even if it’s just a quiet corner of your bedroom.

3. Resist the Urge to Check Your Phone or Social Media

One of the most beneficial habits you can adopt in the morning is to avoid checking your phone or social media. Scrolling through notifications and updates first thing in the morning can increase stress and overwhelm before you’ve even had a chance to wake up fully.By delaying phone use, you give yourself the gift of uninterrupted time to focus on your priorities. Instead of reacting to the outside world, you can start your day with intention and purpose.
Pro Tip: Use an alarm clock instead of your phone to wake up, and set a specific time when you allow yourself to check messages or social media.

4. Prioritize Skin Care and Hair Care

Taking care of your skin and hair in the morning is more than just a matter of hygiene; it’s an act of self-care and love. A morning skin care routine can rejuvenate your complexion, protect your skin from environmental stressors (especially during the winter when Utah is clouded in smog), and give you a moment to focus on yourself. Similarly, dedicating time to your hair care routine ensures you look and feel your best. Whether it’s a quick refresh with a favorite product or a full styling session, this ritual can boost your confidence and start your day on a positive note.
Pro Tip: Keep your skin and hair care routine simple and tailored to your needs to avoid feeling rushed or overwhelmed.

Conclusion

A morning routine isn’t just about getting things done; it’s about creating a space to nurture yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally. Waking up at the same time, practicing mindfulness, avoiding your phone, and investing in self-care are simple yet powerful ways to start your day with intention and positivity. By making these practices a part of your daily life, you’ll find yourself feeling more focused, balanced, and ready to embrace the day ahead.
Start small, be consistent, and watch how a morning routine can transform not only your mornings but your entire life.

The Fascinating History of the Barber Pole: A Symbol of Tradition and Craftsmanship

Step into any barbershop, and you’re likely to see one iconic symbol: the barber pole. Its red, white, and blue stripes swirling around a pole have become synonymous with the profession of barbering. But what’s the story behind this timeless emblem? Let’s journey through history to uncover the origins and evolution of the barber pole.

Medieval Origins: Bloodletting and Barbers
The history of the barber pole can be traced back to medieval times when barbers didn’t just cut hair; they were also surgeons and dentists. Yes, you read that right! In the Middle Ages, barbers performed a range of medical procedures, including bloodletting, tooth extractions, and minor surgeries. The red and white stripes on the barber pole represent the bandages and blood-soaked cloths used during these procedures.

Symbolism and Regulation
As barber-surgeons became more established, they needed a way to advertise their services. Thus, the barber pole emerged as a symbol of their trade. However, it wasn’t until the 17th century in England that the first regulations regarding barber poles were introduced. In 1540, Henry VIII decreed that barbers could only perform haircuts and shaves, while surgeons focused solely on medical procedures. This separation of duties led to the distinctive barber pole as a way to distinguish barber shops from medical practices.

Evolution of the Design
Over the centuries, the design of the barber pole has evolved. Originally, the pole would have been topped with a brass basin, representing the vessel used to catch the blood during bloodletting. As time passed, the pole became more decorative, with the addition of the iconic spiraling stripes.

The Addition of Blue: Symbolism and Tradition
While the red and white stripes are well-known, the addition of blue to the barber pole’s design is less understood. One theory suggests that the blue represents the veins seen through the skin after bloodletting, while another theory links it to the American flag, as barbering became a more prominent profession in the United States.

Modern Symbolism and Cultural Impact
Today, the barber pole remains a beloved symbol of tradition and craftsmanship. It evokes a sense of nostalgia for simpler times when a trip to the barbershop was a social event, and skilled artisans crafted impeccable hairstyles and shaves. Despite the evolution of the barbering profession and changes in grooming trends, the barber pole endures as a timeless emblem of quality service and expertise.

Conclusion
The history of the barber pole is a testament to the enduring legacy of the barbering profession. From its humble beginnings in medieval Europe to its status as a beloved cultural icon today, the barber pole has stood the test of time. So, the next time you pass by a barbershop and see that familiar striped pole, take a moment to appreciate the rich history and tradition it represents.

Essential Tips for Keeping Your Hair Healthy in Dry Summer Weather

As the sun beats down and the temperatures rise, our hair often bears the brunt of summer's harsh conditions. Dryness, frizz, and damage are common complaints during this season, but with a few simple tips and tricks, you can keep your locks looking lush and healthy all summer long.

1. Hydration is Key
Just as your body needs more hydration in the summer heat, so does your hair. Drink plenty of water to keep your strands hydrated from the inside out. Additionally, use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners designed to nourish dry hair. Look for products with natural oils like coconut or argan oil, which help lock in moisture and protect against damage.

2. Shield from the Sun
UV rays can be just as damaging to your hair as they are to your skin. Whenever possible, wear a hat or scarf to protect your hair from direct sunlight. If you're planning to spend a lot of time outdoors, consider using a hair sunscreen or a leave-in conditioner with UV protection to shield your strands from harm.

3. Wash Less, Condition More
Frequent washing can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle. In hot weather, try to wash your hair less often—perhaps every other day or even every few days—to allow your scalp's natural oils to nourish your hair. When you do shampoo, focus on your scalp and roots, and apply conditioner mainly to the lengths and ends of your hair to keep it hydrated.

4. Avoid Heat Styling
Summer is the perfect time to embrace your hair's natural texture and minimize heat styling. Heat tools like flat irons and curling wands can further dry out your hair and contribute to damage. Instead, opt for air-drying whenever possible or use heat-protectant products if you must style with heat. Embrace effortless beach waves or simple updos that don't require excessive heat.

5. Deep Conditioning Treatments
Treat your hair to a weekly deep conditioning treatment to replenish moisture and repair any damage from sun exposure and outdoor activities. You can use store-bought deep conditioners or opt for natural treatments like coconut oil masks. Apply the treatment from roots to ends, leave it on for at least 30 minutes (or overnight for an intensive treatment), and rinse thoroughly.

6. Trim Regularly
Regular haircuts are essential for maintaining healthy hair year-round, but they are especially important in the summer months. Exposure to the sun and heat can cause split ends and breakage, so aim to trim your hair every 6-8 weeks to prevent damage from traveling up the hair shaft.

7. Protect from Chlorine and Saltwater
If you're swimming in chlorinated pools or salty ocean water, rinse your hair with fresh water before diving in. This helps minimize the amount of chlorine or salt absorbed by your hair. After swimming, shampoo and condition your hair to remove any chemicals or salt residue that can dry out your strands.

8. Stay Cool and Hydrated
Lastly, remember that your overall health and well-being impact the condition of your hair. Stay cool and hydrated during hot weather, eat a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals, and consider taking supplements like biotin or omega-3 fatty acids to promote healthy hair growth from within.

By following these simple tips, you can protect your hair from the damaging effects of dry summer weather and keep it looking radiant and healthy all season long. Embrace your natural beauty and enjoy the carefree vibes of summer without worrying about your hair!

Unlocking the Potential: The Benefits of CBD for Hair and Scalp Health

In recent years, CBD (cannabidiol) has emerged as a popular wellness trend, touted for its potential benefits in various aspects of health and beauty. While its effects on stress relief, pain management, and sleep have been widely discussed, another area where CBD is gaining attention is in hair and scalp care. From soothing irritation to promoting hair growth, the potential benefits of CBD for hair and scalp health are intriguing. Let's delve into this topic and explore how CBD could revolutionize your hair care routine.

Understanding CBD and its Interaction with the Scalp
Let's start by stating CBD will not show up on any drug tests and is legal and safe to use topically or internally in all 50 states.
CBD is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in cannabis plants, including hemp. Unlike its counterpart THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD doesn't produce the psychoactive effects commonly associated with cannabis. Instead, it interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in regulating various physiological functions, including skin health.

The skin on the scalp is rich in cannabinoid receptors, making it receptive to the effects of CBD. When applied topically, CBD can potentially influence these receptors, leading to various therapeutic effects.

Benefits of CBD for Hair and Scalp Health
1. Moisture Retention:
Dry scalp and brittle hair are common issues that many people face. CBD contains fatty acids, such as omega-3 and omega-6, which can help nourish the scalp and hair follicles. By moisturizing the scalp, CBD may prevent dryness and flakiness, promoting healthier-looking hair.

2. Anti-Inflammatory Properties:
Inflammation is a leading cause of scalp irritation and hair loss. CBD possesses powerful anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe irritated skin and reduce redness. This makes it beneficial for individuals dealing with conditions like dandruff, eczema, or psoriasis.

3. Stimulating Hair Growth:
Preliminary research suggests that CBD may promote hair growth by improving blood circulation in the scalp and stimulating hair follicles' activity. Additionally, CBD's interaction with the endocannabinoid system may regulate sebum production, preventing clogged pores and promoting a healthier environment for hair growth.

4. Scalp Health:
Maintaining a healthy scalp is crucial for overall hair health. CBD's antibacterial properties can help keep the scalp clean and free from microbial infections. By reducing bacteria and fungi on the scalp, CBD may prevent issues like folliculitis and scalp acne. Healthy scalp will lead to healthy hair.

5. Stress Relief:
Stress is a common contributor to hair loss and scalp problems. CBD is known for its calming effects, as it interacts with receptors in the brain involved in mood regulation. By reducing stress levels, CBD may indirectly promote healthier hair growth and scalp condition.

Incorporating CBD into Your Hair Care Routine
Now that we understand the potential benefits of CBD for hair and scalp health, you may be wondering how to incorporate it into your routine. Here are a few ways to do so:

CBD-infused Shampoos and Conditioners: Look for hair care products containing CBD oil or hemp seed oil. These products can help moisturize the scalp and promote overall hair health. Our favorite brand of CBD hair products would be Leaf & Flower. They make shampoos and conditioners for a variety of different hair types and can be purchased at Omni.

CBD Hair Masks and Treatments: Treat your hair and scalp to a nourishing CBD hair mask or treatment. These products can provide intense hydration and promote hair growth.

Scalp Massages with CBD Oil: Incorporate scalp massages using CBD oil into your self-care routine. Not only does it feel relaxing, but it can also help improve blood circulation and promote hair growth.

Conclusion
While more research is needed to fully understand the extent of CBD's benefits for hair and scalp health, the existing evidence suggests promising potential. Whether you're struggling with dry scalp, hair loss, or simply looking to enhance your hair care routine, incorporating CBD-infused products may offer a natural and effective solution. Remember to consult with a dermatologist or hairstylist before making significant changes to your routine, especially if you have pre-existing scalp conditions or sensitivities.
With continued exploration and innovation in the field of CBD wellness, the future of hair and scalp care looks brighter than ever.
